Washington DC (US), October 8, 2026, BNN Web Staff: US President Donald Trump has renewed his public push for the Nobel Peace Prize, saying he deserves the award while acknowledging that he is uncertain whether the Norwegian Nobel Committee will select him.
Speaking to reporters at the White House on Wednesday, Trump said the announcement of the 2026 Nobel Peace Prize was approaching and argued that his record in dealing with international conflicts justified his claim to the award.
“It is about that time,” Trump said, referring to the upcoming announcement.
Trump claimed that he had “settled eight wars” since returning to office and said he had accomplished things that, in his view, no previous US president had achieved.
“I’ve done stuff that nobody else has ever done. I’m not bragging, I’m just telling you the facts,” Trump said.
He also said he believed the Nobel Committee might not favour him, but argued that failing to recognise his efforts would reflect poorly on the institution.
Trump has repeatedly claimed credit for helping de-escalate or resolve several international conflicts. However, parties involved in some of those disputes have questioned the extent of his role, while fighting has resumed in some areas.
Ukraine, Iran conflicts remain challenges
Trump’s Nobel campaign comes despite continued international conflicts involving the United States and its allies.
His administration has yet to secure a lasting peace agreement in Ukraine, despite Trump’s repeated promises to end the war. Meanwhile, the conflict involving Iran remains another major challenge to his claims of having brought about wider international peace.
Reuters reported that violence has also resurfaced in parts of the Democratic Republic of Congo and along the Cambodia-Thailand border, areas that Trump has cited while discussing his diplomatic record.
The White House has credited Trump’s use of economic pressure and threatened tariffs, along with diplomatic negotiations, for helping bring opposing sides to the negotiating table.
Trump criticises Obama’s Nobel win
Trump also criticised former US President Barack Obama’s 2009 Nobel Peace Prize during his remarks.
He questioned the basis on which Obama received the award early in his presidency and contrasted it with what he described as his own record of conflict resolution.
Trump has made similar arguments about the prize on previous occasions.
Machado’s Nobel medal reference
Trump again referred to Venezuelan opposition leader María Corina Machado, who received the 2025 Nobel Peace Prize.
Machado gave her Nobel medal to Trump during a meeting earlier this year after praising his support for Venezuela’s democratic movement. Trump has since repeatedly cited the gesture while making his own case for the prize.
However, Machado’s award did not mean that Trump was the recipient of the Nobel Peace Prize. The 2026 award will be decided independently by the Norwegian Nobel Committee.
The Nobel Peace Prize is scheduled to be announced on Friday, October 9. Trump is among the names discussed publicly in connection with this year’s prize, although the Norwegian Nobel Committee does not disclose its nominees before the required confidentiality period expires.
